As I'm writing this it's 23.35 o'clock and Fallout 76 comes out at midnight.
I figured I'd write an entry on the new game because I'm still a bit wary of the social aspects in it. It's the first multiplayer game in the Fallout series and there are no NPCs. Instead, all communication is with the other players. This worries me because I'm not a big fan of the kind of crew online multiplayer games tend to attract.

I don't really play much online multiplayers, but in Overwatch my communication with the other players usually is kind of a "kill them with kindness" situation. I try to make friends with my teammates in the voice chat and sometimes with people from the enemy team as well. My psychology behind this is that if I'm kind to them first they have less incentive to be an asshole back at me.
I have zero reasons to trust the others players; there's no honor system in online games.
I'm going to continue writing this tomorrow when I've played the game, we'll see what happens.
~~
So the very first thing I did was muting the first other player I saw. Not a great start. I think they had an open mic so I could hear them just screaming to the void. I couldn't really make sense of it, because there was so much feedback.
The players have to be at least level five to fight each other so at the moment a bunch of us are actually working together. We're all just trying our darnest to survive and figure out the game mechanics. Some people are actively helping each other, although nobody is using voice chat, which is not rare for European servers. We're mostly communicating through emotes.
There seems to be a gentleman's agreement to not screw over each other so today's hot take is that maybe all people who play online multiplayers aren't inherently assholes.

Nice topic, it seems like not much is being talked about it. I would agree that not all players tend to be assholes and for some reason I think that those who do are trying to establish some kind of dominance in the game. Just so they would feel better about themselves :)
VastaaPoistaHave you been enjoying the game? I would love to play this game but the 60$ price tag seems a bit too much for me atm :<
VastaaPoistaInteresting read. The multiplayer experiences that I remember most fondly are the ones I had in Dark Souls games, where there is no voice chat, only gestures like waving etc.
VastaaPoistainteresting post, hopefully you can enjoy the game with your little team and ignore the bugs that numerous players have been reporting
